"City Garbage Haulers Accused Of Taking Bribes", (STNG Wire, The Chicago Sun-Times, June 18, 2008)
Motor truck driver Genard Hannah and his two laborers — Manuel Aguinaga and Bobby Nelson — have been charged with bribery and official misconduct. They allegedly accepted cash bribes — of $60 to $80 — in exchange for hauling away construction debris and hazardous waste from a home in the 6800 block of South Evans Avenue.
City of Chicago Inspector General David Hoffman launched an undercover investigation after the unidentified homeowner complained that crew members "knocked on the rear window of his residence and solicited him for a $100 bribe to pick up construction debris behind his property," according to a police report.
An investigator posing as the homeowner's employee then arranged for four pickups over a one-month period, ending in late April, in exchange for three, $60 payments and one $80 bribe, according to police. All of the illicit payments were reportedly caught on videotape.
